Centre for Small States

Half Day Workshop - Small States in Europe

13 January 2016

Time: 4:00 - 6:00pm
Venue: Room 313, Law Building, School of Law, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS

Jointly hosted by the Centre for Small States (CSS) and the Centre for European and International Legal Affairs (CEILA) in the School of Law at Queen Mary University of London.

The small states of Europe are often overlooked by their larger neighbours when it comes to legal conversations about the EU. This half-day workshop seeks to redress this imbalance and put the position of the small states of the European Union under the spotlight.

The workshop will feature two papers, one by Dr Jurgita Malinauskaite of Brunel University entitled "The Enforcement of EU competition law in small member states: current and future challenges" and the other by Professor Jan Smits of Maastricht University entitled "Do Small Jurisdictions Have a More Complex Law? A Numerical Experiment in Constitutional and Private Law", followed by commentary and participant discussions.

The workshop will be followed by a drinks reception to which all guests are invited.
